If one takes the time to sit quietly in the woods the activity of various forms of life begins to be appreciated. There are insects on the ground busy everywhere. There are squirrels and other small mammals at their appointed tasks, birds raising their young, and sometimes a deer.
This is a picture of an unusual caterpillar we saw one day going to the shop. It has a mouth just like a fish! A short time later Molly saw another, that one was green.
We believe that this becomes the Spicebush Swallowtail Butterly.

This is a particularly pretty foliaged plant. This is a wild orchid called Rattlesnake Plantain.

These are another plant called Indian Pipe appearing under the leaves of an Oak sapling. The whole plant is white, it has no chlorophyl. Delicate petal like leaves are attached to the stalks.

The
Great Morel Hunt
tells about Molly's and George's hunt for the Great
Morel Forest, a semi-mythical place briefly seen in Spring 2000.
We attempt to find it again.
